OKTOBERFEST

This year Oktoberfest will take place from September 20 to October 5 at the Theresienwiese. It is world’s largest Voksfest, known worldwide with its beer festival.

It was first held on 17 October 1810 in honour of the wedding of Louis of Bavaria and Princess Theresa. The citizens of Munich were invited to attend the festivities held on the fields in front of the city gates to celebrate the royal event. The following year the holiday was repeated and in 1819 it was decided to be held annually.

In 1832 they changed the length and dates of the holiday because days are longer and warmer at the end of September. So even today Oktoberfest starts in the second last week in September and ends on the first Sunday in October, lasting three weekends.
