RIMINI – THE BEST PLACE FOR A FAMILY SEA HOLIDAY

author: Ana Boneva

As a sea murmur, the name Rimini sounds gentle and it is known as the best place for family vacations.

The resort of Rimini is more than 400 km from Rome and attracts no less tourists than the eternal city. The warm Adriatic coast, the flour-fine sand makes the local 15-kilometer beaches one of the best in the world, especially when it comes to family vacations. Each beach has its own playground, the sea is knee-deep and offers numerous water attractions for all ages.

Rimini also has a rich history, with Roman ruins, medieval architecture, and is a thriving place for contemporary arts. It is believed that the city was founded by the ancient Romans in 268 BC. under the name Arininum. The Arch of Augustus and the Tiberius’ Bridge remain from this period. As early as the Middle Ages, various artists worked here, including Leonardo da Vinci. Today the place inspires with its calm sea and all those small details that turn a sea holiday into a relaxing and enjoyable one.

We arrived directly at Rimini Airport with a Ryanair flight from Budapest and checked into the De France Hotel located on the first line of the beach. Our room overlooked the sea and although it was small, it gave a wonderful coziness with its two-storey sofa and a balcony overlooking the sea. The beach was huge and despite the many umbrellas and sunbeds, we could still feel the spaciousness and privacy. In 2024, the price for an umbrella and two sun loungers on the first line was 30 euros, from the second to the eighth row 25 rows and the next rows of 20 euros, and this price also included the use of several playgrounds, jumping on inflatable castles, trampolines, ball pools, as well as animators who entertained the children while the adults lounged on the beach. Every day there was a children’s disco on the beach from 18:00.

The water of the sea was crystal clear and in mid-June pleasantly warm. If it weren’t for the few small crabs that scared my children, we probably wouldn’t get out of it. The sand was very fine, and here and there was a sea shell.

20 km from Rimini is the fabulously beautiful country of San Marino, which we highly recommend visiting.

The other attraction we visited was the Fiabilandia Park. Opened in 1965, the theme park had many attractions such as carousels, high-speed roller coasters and all kinds of slides. It is aimed at younger children, but the older ones also had fun in it, especially at the water attractions. Personally, I was most impressed by the circus performance, which was very fun and professional. Separately, there were theatrical performances, cinema films and many playgrounds, trampolines and inflatable castles. Our tickets were for two days, which we spent in the most pleasant way for the children – joint games, carousels and slides.

Rimini left us with only warm memories, enhanced by wonderful pizza, seafood and ice cream, which became a daily routine there. Rimini like a sea murmur gently sounds in our hearts and echoes in our minds only with pleasant memories.

TRIP TIPS FOR RIMINI:

Best time to visit: in May and June, the prices are much more favorable, the weather is excellent, and there are not so many tourists. Another option is at the end of September.
Typical foods and drinks: Italian cuisine is recognized all over the world, and while you are in Rimini, in addition to the excellent pizza, be sure to try the seafood, which is very fresh and excellently prepared. Don’t miss the Italian ice cream, in my opinion, there is no better!
Places to visit: In addition to the excellent beaches, take the time to explore the city center, which has accumulated attractions over its long history such as the Tiberius Bridge, the Arch of Augustus, etc. For younger children, we recommend a visit to the Fiabilandia Park, as well as the Italy Park in Miniatura. You can go for a day or at least half a day to San Marino with an organized excursion or by public transport (buses depart daily from the central station of Rimini).
