Traveling with kids in Bulgaria

WITH KIDS IN PAZARDJIK

The island of Freedom is the best place to play, and one of the most beautiful parks in Bulgaria with attractions for all ages. We invite parents and children to visit Pazardzhik and start their tour from here – on the Island of Freedom, where children can run freely, among lush forests, exotic animals and colorful carousels.

The island of Freedom spreads over nearly 300 acres in the bed of  Maritsa River, and the river winds picturesquely along the park. Near the shore one of the landmarks of the park was erected, that has applied for the Guinness World Records – the longest bench in the world. It has a length of 1011 m and according to its calculations, more than 2000 people can sit at the same time on it. Instead of sitting in one place, however, we recommend that you take a walk through many enticing alleys. One of them will lead you to the Dino park with lots of dinosaurs models from the prehistoric era, which not only look very good, but growl when you approach them. Also casually parked here is Fred Flintstone’s car, which children can get on and imagine driving..

Among the many carousels, inflatable castles, trampolines and other attractions, undoubtedly impressive for children and adults is the zoo, with representatives of various birds and mammals, including a huge tiger, wolves, capricorn, monkeys, ponies, llamas and others.

Your walk in Pazardzhik should not end only with the Island of Freedom Park. Picturesque and wonderful for walks is the city center, where fountains jump playfully and shady restaurants invite you for a treat. On the central square you can see the building of the Regional History Museum, from where you can take a stamp for the 100 tourist sites of Bulgaria, and also see the rich archaeological exhibits, immersing yourself into Bulgarian history.

Not far from the museum is the house-museum of Konstantin Velichkov, where you can learn a lot for this remarkable writer, educator, politician and translator. There are two more house-museums here in Pazardjik: the one of Stanislav Dospevski, and the other of Georgi Gerasimov. The Stanislav Dospevski Art Gallery is also located here. Another beautiful sightseeing (also part of the 100 national tourist sites) is the Church of Assumption of the Most Holy Mother of God.

The name of the town of Pazardzhik comes from the Turkish word “market”, but besides shopping, the town hospitably offers numerous cultural and historical monuments, green parks and beautiful temples. Beautifully located on both banks of the Maritsa River, the town of Pazardzhik is a wonderful place for walks for all ages.
